Second Life journal

02-13-09: I joined Second Life (SL) a about a month ago because a family member told me how much fun she was having.
I had know about SL for about a year and had thought about join it them, but did not. So she convinced me to try it out and give it a chance.
I am still setting up my avatar and have not put much time into it yet, but SL has gotten my interest now.
You can consider this my first journal entry, here is a picture of my current avatar, needs a lot of work still.
One thing before you join SL, there are some interesting people in SL and you will know them when you see them.

02-25-09: Here is a screenshot of my cousin's avatar Leeny as she camps a location to earn Linden Dollars, Leeny  is her screen name in Second Life.
The choices for female clothing is huge compared to male items. There are a few place were you can get free items to start with and the select is very large.
03-02-09: this past Sunday my cousin Leeny brought down her computer so I could update the hardware and software for her. It was generic OEM brand with a 2.4GHz Celeron, a MSI MS-7005 motherboard, a gForce2 MX 400 with 64MB RAM, a 40GB hard drive and 1GB of RAM.
I update the RAM to 2GB using 2 PNY 1GB 400MHz sticks down clock to 333MHZ, because that is what the motherboard only supported. I update the video card to a gForce 5200 FX with 128MB of RAM and plan on adding either a ATI Radeon 2600 or 3650 series apg card later.
While testing the system updates we found that Second Life (SL) would no longer login to the network. I updated the video card drivers six times, reinstalled the SL software about four times.
My cousin then contacted one of her friends in SL who pointed us to the system requirements page on the main website to see that the gForce 5 series of video cards are not supported at all.
We lost about four hours trying to figure this out on our own. It never occurred to me once  that the video card was not supported. I know outdated drivers would cause this issue, but to support gForce2, gForce 4 and gForce 6, but then skip completely gForce 5 makes no sense. Had to reinstall the gForce2 card for now so she can login to SL.
Her friend is sitting on left in the image above here, thank you for your help Angus.
You can check out the complete system requirements page online to see if you need to update you hardware to run Second Life. LINK >>
